Friday, 12 April 2019 at the TA/MG Seminar Room a guest lecture from PT Buki Asam Tbk. was held, with the title “Development of Coal Downstreaming into DME Fuel and High-Value Petrochemical Products by PT Bukit Asam Tbk”. Guest Lecture which was originally to be given by Mr. Ir. Fuad Iskandar Zulkarnain Fachroeddin, MBA as Director of Business Development at PT Bukit Asam Tbk. was replaced by Drs. Muhammad Hatta, MBA as Head of Development of Coal Gasification in Tanjung Enim.

In his lecture, Mr. Hatta explained about the process of converting lignite coal through gasification technology into synthetize gas (syngas). Syngas will be used as raw material for further processing into final products with higher selling value i.e.,  Polypropylene as a raw material for the plastic industry, Dimethyl Ether (DME) as fuel, Urea as fertilizer. To develop business from coal to all downstream products, PT Bukit Asam together with PT Pertamina (Persero), PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), and PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk will form a joint venture (JV) to build a coal gasification processing plant in Tanjung Enim.
