International Virtual Course in Metallurgy 2021

International Virtual Course in Metallurgy 2021

Introduction

Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering ITB, in collaboration with Aalto University-Finland and Central South University-China, proudly announces and invites you to join The International Virtual Course in Sustainable Process Metallurgy 2021.

This course will cover science and technology underpinning the production of metals from raw ores and electronic wastes by using high and low-temperature processes. This course discusses the principles of metal production by using pyrometallurgy, hydro-electrometallurgy, and also recycling. The fundamentals of metallurgical processes such as thermodynamics will also be addressed. This course will cover the extraction of Cu, Ni, Sn, Zn, Pb, rare earth metals, and WEEE recycling (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) using metallurgical methods and microbes. Rare earth metals utilization for advanced technology will be covered as well.

Why you should join this course?

Lecturers from three different nations will share the uniqueness of metal production technology.

[1] Finland is well known for its copper technology and the professor from Aalto University will teach us how to produce copper.

[2] China is the world-leading metal producer and therefore we will learn how to produce zinc and lead and know the present state of WEE recycling there by the expert from Central South University.

[3] Indonesia is widely recognized for smelting technology for its lateritic nickel and tin ore and thus, it’s good to learn how to process them directly from the experienced lecturers from Bandung Institute of Technology and industries.

[4] Indonesia has the potential to process Rare Earth Metals. The processing and application of REE for advanced technology will be discussed.

[5] The processing of nickel lateritic ore using hydrometallurgy routes will be delivered.

[6] Participants who satisfy the requirements will receive an E-transcript worth three credits at the end of the course (only for students from ITB, ITB Partner universities, or those from the Sasrabahu program).
