Bandung, October 13, 2025 – The Metallurgical Engineering Department, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) successfully held the Student Paper Competition (SPC) 2025 as part of the International Process Metallurgical Conference (IPMC) series. This competition served as a platform for students to present innovative research ideas in the field of metallurgy, aligning with the main theme of IPMC 2025, “Advancing Sustainable Metallurgy Towards Circularity and Carbon Neutrality.”

The event commenced with an inspiring guest lecture by Prof. M. Akbar Ramdhani, Ph.D., from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, who shared insights on current advancements and challenges in sustainable metallurgical processes. His lecture provided valuable perspectives for participants to broaden their understanding of metallurgical innovation in the context of global sustainability.

The final round of the Student Paper Competition 2025 was held at the IPTEK Auditorium, East CC Building, ITB, featuring exceptional finalists from various universities across Indonesia. Each team presented their research paper before a panel of judges consisting of academics and industry professionals, who evaluated the presentations based on several key aspects: Mastery of Subject and Delivery, Data Visualization, Q&A Handling, Structure, and Time Management.

This year, the competition awarded three best teams as follows:

• 🥇 1st Place – Tactic Team, Institut Teknologi Bandung

“Hydrogen Reduction of Lateritic Nickel Ore Using a Fluidized Bed Reactor Toward Environmentally Sustainable Ferronickel Production”

• 🥈 2nd Place – Phytomaxxing Team, Institut Teknologi Bandung

“Dual Valorization of Zinc Waste in Central Kalimantan’s Tailings Through Enhanced Phytomining: Integrating Inoculant-Assisted Metal Uptake and Hyperaccumulators’ Biomass Utilization into Bioethanol toward Circular Metallurgy”

• 🥉 3rd Place – Goes To ITB Team, Universitas Diponegoro

“Optimization of Nickel Pyrometallurgy Roasting Using Exothermic Reaction by CaO Flux with Palm Kernel Shell as Biochar for Sustainable Processing”

The Student Paper Competition IPMC 2025 aims to encourage students to contribute to the advancement of metallurgical science and to address global challenges, particularly in industrial decarbonization and sustainable energy transition. Through this event, it is expected that young metallurgists will continue to generate forward-thinking ideas that promote a more efficient, environmentally responsible, and globally competitive metallurgical industry.

Pertemuan Awal Semester I 2025/2026 Program Studi Sarjana Teknik Metalurgi ITB

Bandung, 19 September 2025 – Program Studi Sarjana Teknik Metalurgi, Fakultas Teknik Pertambangan dan Perminyakan, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) menggelar Pertemuan Awal Semester I 2025/2026 yang bertempat di Ruang LFM-9009. Acara diawali dengan kegiatan makan-makan bersama yang dihadiri oleh para dosen dan seluruh mahasiswa sebelum agenda utama berlangsung.​

Pertemuan ini dipimpin oleh Ketua Program Studi Sarjana Teknik Metalurgi, Ir. Tria Laksana Achmad, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., yang memberikan sambutan, pengarahan, dan motivasi khususnya bagi mahasiswa baru. Beliau menekankan pentingnya kedisiplinan akademik, semangat belajar, serta komunikasi aktif antara mahasiswa dan dosen untuk mendukung pencapaian akademik yang optimal.​

Agenda pertemuan juga mencakup pengenalan dosen pengajar, penyampaian informasi penting seputar perkuliahan semester I 2025/2026, serta penjelasan sistem akademik dan peraturan program studi.

Acara ditutup dengan harapan agar seluruh mahasiswa dapat memanfaatkan kesempatan belajar di semester ini secara maksimal dan terus meningkatkan semangat untuk berprestasi di Program Studi Sarjana Teknik Metalurgi ITB.​
